Deleting Your Own Messages
Right-click (or long-press on mobile) any message you sent and select Delete. The message content is permanently removed and replaced with a "Message deleted" notice that both you and the recipient can see.
What You Can Delete
- You can only delete messages that you sent: you cannot delete messages sent by other people
- Deleted messages are removed from the conversation for both parties
- If the message contained images or files, those attachments are also permanently deleted from our servers
What Deletion Looks Like
After deletion, the recipient sees a grayed-out "Message deleted" placeholder where your message used to be. They cannot recover or view the original content. Any reactions on the deleted message are also removed.
Important Notes
- Deletion is permanent: there is no undo
- If the recipient already read the message before you deleted it, they may have already seen the content
- Push notification previews may have shown a snippet of the message before deletion
