Can I add multiple characters to a Scene?
Character Limits
Scenes support up to 20 characters each. Every character can have a unique personality, backstory, and defined role within the scene. There is no minimum — a scene can have just one character if that fits the story.
Defining Roles
When adding a character to a scene, you define their scene role — a short description of who they are in this context. This is separate from the character's base personality and adds scene-specific behavior on top.
For example, a character with a base personality of friendly bartender might have a scene role of secretly the informant the player is looking for, nervous and evasive when asked direct questions.
Character Interactions
Characters in a scene interact with each other and with you based on:
- Their individual personality instructions (base behavior)
- Their scene role (context-specific behavior)
- The scene's rules and backstory (world constraints)
- What has happened so far in the current playthrough
Characters can talk to each other, argue, form alliances, reveal information, and react to your actions. The AI manages all inter-character dynamics automatically.
Tip For the best multi-character scenes, give each character a distinct voice and a clear motivation that may conflict with other characters. Tension between characters drives engaging stories.
