Can I make my character private?
Default Privacy
All characters are private by default. When you create a character, only you can see it and chat with it. No one else can discover it through search, the Explore page, or direct URL.
Sharing Options
You have three levels of visibility:
- Private — only you can access (default)
- Link sharing — anyone with the direct link can chat with your character. The character will not appear in search or Explore, but the link works for anyone
- Published — listed on the marketplace for all users to discover (Creator plan only, requires review)
How to Share via Link
1. Go to Character Settings → Sharing
2. Toggle on Link Sharing
3. Copy the generated URL and send it to whoever you want
You can disable link sharing at any time. Existing conversations continue, but new users cannot start chats via the old link.
Privacy Guarantees
- Shared users get their own independent conversation and memory — they cannot see your chats
- Your personality instructions are never visible to other users, even on published characters
- You can revoke access at any time by toggling sharing off or unpublishing
Want to share with specific people only? Use link sharing and do not publish to the marketplace. You control who gets the link.
