How do I start a voice conversation?
Requirements
Voice chat is available on Plus ($12/mo) and above. The free plan does not include voice. You also need:
- A modern browser — Chrome and Firefox deliver the best experience
- Microphone access — your browser will prompt you to grant permission the first time you click the mic icon
- A stable internet connection — voice uses WebRTC for real-time streaming, which needs consistent bandwidth
Starting a Call
1. Open any conversation with a character
2. Click the mic icon in the chat input area
3. Grant microphone permission when your browser prompts you
4. Start speaking naturally — the character listens, processes, and responds in its configured voice
5. Click the mic icon again to end the voice session and return to text chat
Voice and text messages appear in the same conversation thread, so you can switch between modes without losing context.
- Chrome (desktop and Android) — best overall experience with lowest latency
- Firefox (desktop and Android) — fully supported, comparable to Chrome
- Safari (iOS and macOS) — works but has occasional microphone permission quirks. If voice drops, refresh the page
- Edge — fully supported, uses Chromium engine
Having trouble? Make sure no other app is using your microphone, refresh the page, and try again. If issues persist, try a different browser or check the troubleshooting article below.
