What are personas and how do I use them?
Personas let you present different versions of yourself to different characters. Instead of being the same "you" in every conversation, you can create distinct identities — each with its own name, pronouns, and backstory — and switch between them freely.
Why Use Personas
Characters on Dyva adapt their responses based on who they think they are talking to. A persona gives the character context about you, which leads to more tailored and immersive conversations. Common use cases:
- Roleplay — create a persona for a character you want to play in a fantasy or story-driven chat
- Separation — keep a casual identity for fun conversations and a different one for more serious interactions
- Experimentation — try different backgrounds and see how characters respond differently
Creating a Persona
- Open any chat conversation
- Click the persona icon in the chat input area
- Select Create Persona
- Fill in the fields: display name, pronouns, and background/bio
- Save your persona
You can create as many personas as you want. Each one is stored in your account and available across all conversations.
Switching Personas
To change your active persona mid-conversation, click the persona icon and select a different one from your list. The character will adjust to your new identity going forward. Previous messages in the conversation are not rewritten.
Setting a Default
If you want one persona to apply automatically to every new conversation, go to your persona list and mark one as Default. Any conversation you start will use that persona unless you switch manually.
Editing and Deleting
Open the persona menu, tap the options icon next to any persona, and choose Edit or Delete. Deleting a persona does not affect past conversations where it was used — those messages remain as they are.
Tip Give your personas distinct backgrounds, not just different names. A character will respond very differently to a "veteran space explorer" than to a "first-year college student." The more detail you provide in the bio, the richer the interaction.
